Welcome to a history of Fowey Harbours' vessels, the
operations and events in the harbour.
operations and events in the harbour.
I had the privilege to be the Harbour Master in Fowey for 25 years up until June 2011 and serving a total of 28 years with the Fowey Harbour Commissioners. In that time there were many changes in the operations and with the different vessels we had. There is a tremendous amount of history attached to not only the vessels, but the way operations took place.
Before I retired I started pulling together details and writing the history so that others could enjoy and use. I was beaten by time and so, in retirement, I have continued the project and in this website, which I hope you will find of interest.
With historic record more details come to light and these will be added and updated. More information is welcomed so please contact me. Other sections will be added in due course.
I have been able to provide the information on The Harbour Commissioners history largely due to the help afforded to me by Captain Paul Thomas, Harbour Master and the harbour office team .
My interest in the port also includes the various vessels that operated to and from Fowey and in particular those registered in the port and of course with special interest in those built in Fowey and neighboring harbours. There's a section on the sailing ship era.
This latter research has led me to follow up many leads about or connected to Fowey. It may be necessary to shift this information to a separate website dealing solely with the history of sailing vessel ,ship building and the people involved but for now it is included .
good researching
